Virtual Taiwan Night Market Arrives in Singapore!

Virtual Taiwan Night Market Arrives in Singapore!

Going Online

The anticipated second year of Shilin Singapore kicks off on June 12th this year with one little caveat. Instead of being held live at the Singapore Turf Club, due to COVID-19, this year's event will take place entirely online. While this may come as a slight disappointment to some, the event's organizers and shops have gone the extra mile to make sure the event retains as much of its charm as possible, even through your computer screen. Restaurants and retailers will all be present throughout the online event to take orders online so you can still feel like you'e really there in person.

What is Shilin Singapore?

Shilin Singapore is based on Taipei's Shilin Night Market, or Shi Lin Ye Shi (士林夜市). It is one of TaiPei's most famous attractions and is a must-see for visitors to Taiwan. First appearing in Singapore in 2019, the popular event offers a uniquely Taiwan-based experience to Singaporeans who wish to sample a flavour of what Taiwan has to offer. This year's online experience will feature almost "100 virtual stalls selling nearly everything one would expect - and yes, that means bubble tea!" Just some of the virtual stalls present will include companies like "Playmade, D'bun, Scent by Six, Yin Zun Handmade Soap, Mori and more."

What's on Offer?

When you visit the event organizer's official site, you will gain access to four different zones - Eat, Shop, Play, and Fun. Virtual visitors can view live performances by "media personalities like Jamie Teo and Sgag", virtually hang out with other shoppers, live-stream "immersive experiences like cooking segments by Aaron Wong" and even order "products as well as delicious food through live streams for home delivery."

Those who need a bit of extra entertainment to pair with their online shopping experience can enjoy "music acts such as Singapore's Cha Ban Sheng, Nat Wu, Yokez, Marcus Lee, and Taiwanese singer Caryson.

In addition to music, performances and online food stalls, virtual visitors can also play a variety of games from the comfort of their own homes and stand to win a number of exciting prizes and vouchers.
